1) Welcome to the Weekly Update!
We now have a weekly update system up and running! We will be using this weekly email to keep you abreast of the work we are doing here at the Institute, and let me tell you there is lots of work to do! The Left is on the march and the Center-Right coalition is under attack. Here in Minnesota several new left-leaning think tanks have sprung up in the past couple of years including Minnesota 2020 and Growth and Justice. They are churning out propaganda at an astounding rate to raise your taxes and impose red-green socialism in the State of Minnesota. We need to meet and exceed their productivity, and we need your help to do it!
2) The David Strom Show
The David Strom Show sponsored by the Minnesota Free Market Institute is broadcast weekly on AM 1280 The Patriot Saturdays 9-11 A.M. Podcasts of the show are available at Townhall.com and also directly via iTunes. (See our radio show page for details). The show is now downloaded 11,000 times a month!
Last Saturday, in the first hour David played the audio and discussed CNN founder and billionaire Ted Turner's now infamous rant on Global Warming and how if we don't "do" something about it, we will all become cannibals. Phil Krinkie reported on what will happen with the bonding bill and Rep. Paul Kohls (R-Victoria) gave us his perspective on the budget and bonding bill votes. In the 2nd hour, St. Cloud State Economics chair and Free Market Institute Policy Fellow Prof. King Banaian discussed the continuing talk of recession, the financial crisis and more.
Click here for audio highlights of last weekend's show.
Upcoming guests: 4/12 Manhattan Institute's City Journal Editor, Brian C. Anderson author of Democratic Capitalism and Its Discontents; 4/19 Don Eberly, author of The Rise of Global Civil Society: Building Communities and Nations from the Bottom Up.

3) Rich States, Poor States
Two of our favorite free-market economists Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore have turned their critical attention to what makes States economically competitive, and have produced a report for the American Legislative Exchange Commission (ALEC) that is well worth a read. Called "Rich States, Poor States," Laffer and Moore do a great job outlining what makes for economic success in this increasingly competitive world. Minnesota's one-page report is here.
